A spectacular and highly detailed Chinese rosewood double-opening jewelry chest — a truly unique and functional piece of Asian decorative art. Standing approximately 3.5 inches tall, this compact yet richly appointed chest opens from the center via a central hinge, with both halves swinging outward to reveal two red velvet-lined pull-out drawers — one per side — perfect for storing rings, earrings, and small jewelry.
Every face of the chest is adorned with a hand-painted cloisonné-style oval medallion featuring traditional Chinese motifs — including Maneki-neko (lucky cat), chrysanthemum flowers, double happiness characters (嗜), and auspicious floral arrangements — in rich red, green, gold, and white on dark grounds. The edges and corners are reinforced with ornate pierced and dotted brass corner fittings in a traditional cloud and ruyi pattern, and the two halves are secured by a brass center clasp. The chest stands on four round silver ball feet. The exterior wood has a deep, glossy dark rosewood lacquer finish with visible wood grain.
